Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.

In the absence of a blog from any one who was actually there, this blog is created to record the following fact.
Russian Paul swam, lots of people cheered.
Barge boy, apparently swapped his large boat for a smaller boat, and lost control. Eventually pulling his deck after only one or two rolls (not the ten or eleven of his usual stories).
Other stuff that happened at Nottingham, but I wasn't a party too. But I did overhear in the pub, and feel that this kind of information needs sharing.

Off the side, where she was about to sit and watch the fun, she slipped and fell in, taking her boat with her (separately). Eventually ending up in the looping pool, where she was rescued by a member of the England free style team.
Comments:I will back Russian Paul up on this one. He did have about 5 or 6 attempts at rolling before finally giving up and pulling that loop on the spraydeck (which i think he was forgetting existed)
Sarahs swim was quite amusing, as she kept circulating round in the recirculating eddy, until eventually a guy in a carbon fibre salalom boat decided to give her a prod to the side
Well, it's a pleasure to be a kind of paddler who's swims get announced on the Club's site!Post a Comment
Can you imagine if I brought the news like "eBen swam" to the Club session? The response I'd deserve would be "Yeah, and the Pope is a Catholic". And by the way, he DID swim in his own boat that day and also managed to get pinned (the first pin ever in the entire HPP history, I presume).
And when I swam, guess what Ben decided to chase in my boat? Me? Try again :)
The only thing I am really disappointed about is that I couldn't perform to Sarah's hopes. I can still remember her quiet whisper as I was squeezing my fat bum into that parody of a boat: "No, he ain't gonna swim".
Sorry Sarah, I've let you down. I'll try to make it up to you somehow...
