Aire Waves

Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.

Annual awards 2009

This year's xmas party saw the annual leeds canoe club awards handed out:
  • Services to Leeds Canoe Club - Kelvin Horner
  • Club captain - Andy Hall
  • Coach/trainer of the year - Julie Gill
  • Bernard Chapman award - some say his new hip is fashioned from recycled kayak plastic, but all we know is he's called Eddie Gray
  • Most improved adult - Sophie Marceron
  • Most improved junior - Alex Wilkinson
  • Best pin - Lisa Cookson on the upper upper Wharfe
  • Best swim - Mick Liversidge, for swimming the entire length of the Soca gorge in Solvenia(amongst others)
  • Duck award - Katie McGrath, for so many swims in so many rivers
  • Fashion victim award - our very own santa's elf - Dave Daykin and his christmassy paddlekit of red dry suit & green helmet
  • Dick of the year award - when a rescuer offered help to Sue in her hour of need on Bala Mill Falls, she was rather surprised when she grabbed hold of the rope and took her rescuer into the river with her - well done to Scott Hodgeson
  • Best fancy dress award - as Dave didn't turn up as the paddling elf, the award went to Sophie "the Fish" Marceron

Thanks to Mick for organising a great xmas party, and to Jonny for pointing out the error in peoples ways for not turning up in fancy dress!
