Leeds Canoe Club Blog. We paddle... lots!
Airewaves used to be Leeds Canoe Club's magazine letting people know what the club was upto. Its quite hard work pulling together a publication letting people know what the club is doing and publishing dates in advance is always hard as things tend to change. Step forth the blog.. Push button publishing for the masses. So here is the idea a few people in the club take it in turns to write up trips and talk about things in the club.
Free foundation safety and rescue courses available for club members who are prepared to give up some time to assist with safety marshaling at either the Wetherby triathlon (Sunday 27th May, we are usually finished by 10am) or Coniston Grizedale mountain bike triathlon (Sunday 10th June, this one comes with FREE weekend camping and FREE entry to the pre-race pasta party, we try to do something on the Saturday, paddle or mountain bike, we usually finish on the Sunday around 3pm).
The course is open for anyone who is over 16 and of a two star standard, you do not need to have a two star) the course usually costs around £50 per person and will probably be held locally.
All applicants must have access to transport, to get them too and from the venues.
FSRT cover the basics of safety and rescue, throw lines boat and bank based rescues etc. a fuller syllabus is available on the club website under the training section.
Alternatively if you already hold an FSRT qualification (or suitable alternative) and would like to come along and give a hand, the organizers offer a free entry into one of their other events as a thank you for your efforts. (There are some sprint distance events, which take about one and a half to two hours, usual entry fee is around £50, several club members are already taking part in these)
Oh and there's FREE T-SHIRTS too
